The Old Round Barn in Arcadia, Oklahoma,
is known around the world. If you stop by and visit the
Gift Shop, managed by Butch Bregger, you will be amazed
at the many different countries and continents listed
by guests as being their homes. The barn was built in
1898 and is listed by the National Preservation Historical
Society.
We love to say, because it is true,
that we had two very famous neighbors, Route 66 and
The Old Round Barn. We lived less than 40 feet away
from the edge of The Mother Road on the second floor
of our parent's general store on Route 66, and The Old
Round Barn was practically in our back yard. As a child,
I couldn't understand why this wonderful barn was in
the middle of town, one of the curiosities about the
barn. You have to know the history about the fire that
almost destroyed a thriving little Oklahoma town to
understand why.
We do want you to go to The Old Round
Barn's website for a lot more information, but first
Click
Here and listen to Donna's song that she wrote about
the barn. She loves the barn so much, as everyone does.
She uses her family to tell the story about the barn.
It is historically accurate and, at one time, was voted
to be the barn's theme song.
